White in action last season

Name: Royce White

Position: PF

Number: Not Assigned, but probably for different reasons than James Anderson

Age: 22

Height: 6’8

College: Minnesota/ Iowa State

2013-14 Salary (per Basketball-Reference.com): $ 1.7 Million

2012-13 Stats (per Basketball-Reference.com): With The Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the D-League 16 GP, 25.6 MPG. 11.4 PPG, 5.7 RPG, 3.3 APG, 2.6 TOVG

How Acquired: Traded to the Sixers by the Rockets for future considerations in July 2013.

Pros: White is a big body with big hands and long arms. At the scouting combine in 2012 his hands were measured at 11.5 inches wide (WOW). He is considered a great passer and can do a variety of things on the offensive end of the floor. He can work in the post or around the perimeter. Defensively he is a good rebounder who makes up for a lack of size with sheer bulk and soft hands.

Cons: Here’s a report TYT sports did on White, it sums up everything.

He also turns the ball over a lot for a forward and is slightly undersized.

There is no reason to doubt that White is serious about his anxiety disorder, as millions of people suffer from the same affliction. There is, however, some reason to doubt that White will be able to play through it. MLB Pitcher Zack Greinke suffered from the same issue, and was eventually able to overcome it. Every case is different, but here’s hoping that White can cope with it, because he could be one hell of a player.

Tomorrow: Tim Ohlbrecht

  1. At least he’s one to admit those problems. Better to recognize and get help then letting his problems get the best of him. I like to see what he’s capable of.

  2. Anxiety would definitely lead to turnovers.
