Yesterday, we looked at Royce White. Today we turn our attention to another Houston Rockets castoff, Germany’s Tim Ohlbrecht.
Name: Tim Ohlbrecht
Number: Not Assigned, yet….
College: None, played professionally in Germany from 2005-2012
2013-14 Salary (per Basketball-Reference.com):$788,872
2012-13 Stats (per Basketball-Reference.com): 4 MPG, 1.0 PPG, 0.3 RPG, 0.3 STL, 0.3 APG
How Acquired: Signed as a free agent by the Sixers on 7/15/13
Pros: The guy is tall, he’s 6’11. According to Nbadraft.net Ohlbrecht is athletic, runs the floor well and is a good scorer. He makes good decisions and defends the pick and roll well, which is a plus in the NBA these days.
Cons: Again, this from NBADraft.net. Ohlbrecht is consdiered “too unselfish” and is hesitant to take over a game despite all of his physical gifts. He can be a little bit careless with the basketball. He is also not a great help defender, which works for this team because winning isn’t the name of the game this season. For as tall as he is, he doesn’t have much of a post game and some scouts have questioned his love of basketball in the past. I’m sure the influence of Kwame Brown will help to fix that.
A bench guy I guess. Who knows? For everything that is said about how impressive he can be, he didn’t get drafted when he was eligible and the Rockets rarely used him last season off the bench. His contract lasts until next season and I’m sure no one is expecting much from him.
Tomorrow: Lavoy Allen
