Welcome back to “Who’s This Guy?” a look at the 2013-14 Sixers Roster. Yesterday we reminded you that Lavoy Allen went soft. Today we get meet Iranian Trailblazer Arsalan Kazemi
Name: Arsalan Kazemi
2013-14 Salary: $500,000
2012-13 Stats at Oregon: 29 MPG, 9.4 PPG, 10.0 RPG, 0.7 BPG
How Acquired: Draft day trade with Washington Wizards after being picked 54th Overall
Pros: Kazemi is only the second Iranian to play in the NBA, and the first to have ever received a Division 1 Scholarship. He had a very good college career as a forward who could rebound, score, pass and defend a little bit. He is considered to be a high-motor/high-energy guy by scouts and could eventually be a guy who comes off the bench every night to give the team 10-15 strong minutes.
Cons: Kazemi isn’t quite athletic enough to be a small forward in the league, and he isn’t quite big enough to be a power forward. His game is still unpolished and the Sixers have considered sending him to Europe to play and develop. At 23, one wonders how much more developing there is left to do and how quickly can it get done. The case could be that Kazemi is falls into that “tweener” category, almost always an albatross around the neck of a young player.
Tomorrow: Michael Carter-Williams
