Welcome back to “Who’s This Guy?” a look at the 2013-14 Sixers Roster. Yesterday we introduced you to Michael Carter-Williams, the future. Today we meet the man who was afraid to dunk the ball, political commentator Spencer Hawes
Name: Spencer Hawes
2013-14 Salary (per Basketball-reference.com) : $6.60 Million
2012-13 Stats (per Basketball-reference.com): 27.2 MPG, 11.0 PPG, 7.2 RPG, 1.4 BPG
How Acquired: Trade with the Sacramento Kings 6/20/10 for Samuel Dalembert.
Pros: Tall, can block shots and rebound, can score from outside, pretty good passer, plays hard every so often.
Cons: Soft, lazy, not a very good athlete. Then, there’s this at 2:51:
That pretty much sums him up. He’s had some good games for the Sixers, but he really gets outworked on both ends of the court a lot of times. He’s slow up and down, often the last player on both ends to get into his set, and he gives up a ton of points defensively. He doesn’t box out, is easily boxed out and though he always kind of hops after someone else rebounds the ball, he doesn’t seem to be playing very hard very often. His contract expires at the end of the season, that’s enough for me to be able to watch him kind of sort of play this year.
Tomorrow: Tony Wroten Jr.
